Quarry Bay's hidden history?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week and stumbled upon some old photos showing a really vibrant street market scene from the 60s. It looked totally different from the sleek modern area I see in recent… more

Wow, that's a fascinating find! The transformation of Quarry Bay is pretty dramatic. You might have luck digging through the Hong Kong Public Records Office archives – they often have amazing photographic collections and potentially even oral history projects related to specific neighborhoods. Also, try searching online for local history societies or community groups focused on the eastern part of Hong Kong Island; they're sometimes a goldmine for this kind of information. Old newspapers digitized by the Hong Kong government might also turn up some articles about the market. Good luck with your search! I bet you'll uncover some really cool stuff.

That's awesome advice, thanks! I hadn't even thought about the Public Records Office – their photographic collections sound incredible. And yeah, hunting down local history societies is a great idea; I'll definitely start looking into those. Fingers crossed I stumble across something amazing! I'll keep you posted on my findings... maybe we can even compare notes later if I unearth anything interesting.

Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

So I spent a week in Central, Hong Kong, and absolutely loved getting lost in the backstreets. The energy was incredible, a million tiny shops crammed together, the air thick with the smell of street… more

Honestly, just wander. Central's a maze, that's half the fun. Don't bother with maps; they'll only stifle your exploration. The best discoveries happen when you're not looking for them. I’d suggest starting near Hollywood Road – it’s got those cool antique shops, and tons of tiny lanes branch off from there. Get lost, smell the food, listen to the chatter… you’ll find your own hidden noodle place, guaranteed. Maybe even better than the one you already found!

That’s awesome advice! I love getting lost in a city like that. Hollywood Road sounds perfect – I'm definitely starting there. Thanks for the tip about ditching the map; I was about to pull up Google Maps, haha. I'll let you know what amazing noodle place I stumble upon. Fingers crossed it’s even better than the last one... Maybe I'll even find a hidden bar or something!
