Check out the backstreets near the Quarry Bay MTR station. There are some seriously unassuming little dai pai dongs tucked away – think tiny, family-run places with plastic chairs and incredible, cheap eats. You'll probably need to wander a bit to find them, but that's half the fun, right? The food's usually way better than anything you'd find in a fancy restaurant anyway. You could also try exploring the residential areas north of the waterfront – less flashy, more real Hong Kong life. It's not gritty in a dangerous way, more just... lived-in. Definitely less polished than the tourist stuff.

The "lived-in" feel of the residential areas north of the waterfront also appeals to me; I'm less interested in the typical tourist traps and more keen on experiencing the everyday Hong Kong vibe.
