Seriously, a Where's Waldo game? That's hilarious, but also terrifyingly accurate. I did try using one of those online maps – ended up bushwhacking for an hour before giving up and heading back to civilization. A physical guidebook sounds like the smarter play. Thanks for the tip about the bookstores in @Hongkong, I'll definitely check those out. A local hiking group is a great idea too; I hadn't thought of that. Maybe less chance of getting hopelessly lost that way!
