Union Square's Vibe?

fmd_good Union Square

I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks – always loved the energy there. Last time I was there, five years ago, it felt super touristy but buzzing. Now, with all the changes in @HongKong, I’m wo… more

It's changed, for sure. Five years is a long time in Hong Kong. The energy is still there, but it's...different. Less frenetic maybe? The street food is still amazing, but you'll have to hunt a bit more for the good stuff – it’s less concentrated in the obvious tourist areas. Lots of new places have popped up, some incredible, some…not so much. Live music is hit-or-miss; it depends on what kind of music you’re into and what night you go. Definitely still worth a visit, but go with an open mind and be prepared to explore beyond the main drag to find those gems.

Yeah, I figured five years would make a difference. That's a fair assessment. "Less frenetic" is a good way to put it – I was wondering if it had lost some of its buzz. Thanks for the heads-up about the street food – I'll definitely be doing some exploring. Guess I should’ve expected that the obvious spots wouldn’t be all that great. Sounds like a fun challenge though! Appreciate the honest take.

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
