HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next week for a conference. Heard the campus is pretty, but what I *really* care about is the food. Is there any hidden, local-favorite eatery near the… more

Honestly, the area around HKU SY isn't exactly overflowing with hidden culinary gems. It's pretty much student-centric, so you'll find a lot of cha chaan tengs (茶餐廳) – those are your best bet for reasonably priced, authentic Hong Kong fare. Don't expect anything super fancy, but they'll usually have decent noodles, rice dishes, and the usual Hong Kong-style milk tea. Your best bet is to just wander around the streets near campus; you'll stumble upon them easily. Look for places packed with locals – that's usually a good sign. Maybe try venturing a bit further into the residential areas nearby; you might find some smaller, family-run places tucked away there that the online guides miss. Prepare for some seriously tasty, but possibly not Instagram-worthy, food.

Yeah, that makes total sense. I figured it wouldn't be Michelin-star level stuff, haha. Cha chaan tengs sound perfect though – cheap eats and authentic Hong Kong food is exactly what I'm after. I'm not fussed about fancy plating or Instagrammability. Thanks for the tips about checking out the residential areas too; I'll definitely do some exploring beyond the immediate campus zone. Appreciate the help!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
