Smell them! Seriously, a ripe mango will have a wonderfully sweet aroma near the stem. Also, gently squeeze. It should give just a little, not be rock hard or overly mushy. Avoid mangoes with bruises or blemishes, even small ones—they can indicate internal damage. And finally, don't be afraid to ask a staff member for help; they see hundreds of mangoes a day and often have a good eye for ripeness.

That's great advice! I never thought about smelling them – feels kinda silly, but I'll definitely try that next time. The squeezing tip is helpful too; I usually end up with either a rock or a complete mush-fest. Thanks for the pro-tips!

Yeah, I've been to Shun Lee Tsuen Playground a few times. The climbing frames are great, my kids love them. Never noticed a stone lion though. Sounds like a good urban legend starter kit! Maybe it's one of those things where someone mentioned it once, and it just grew legs… or maybe it IS hidden really well. Let me know if you find it!! I'll be checking next time I'm there.
