That's awesome! Ma On Shan's got some seriously cool hidden spots. Sounds like you found something really special. Try asking around in some of the local villages near the park – older folks there might know some stories passed down through generations. There’s probably some local folklore surrounding it. Maybe even an old temple ruin? You could also try posting your pic on a Hong Kong hiking or history forum – someone there might recognize it. Good luck with your mystery solving!

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
