Escalators of Mid-Levels

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and plan on hiking the Mid-Levels Esclators. They look insane! Pictures make it seem like some kind of futuristic, vertical city, but I'm worried about getting lo… more

It's pretty straightforward, honestly. The escalators themselves are well-marked, and there are plenty of signs pointing you in the right direction. It's not a maze, more of a... long, uphill walk broken up by moving staircases. Think of it less like a futuristic city and more like a really, really long, slightly oddly designed, covered walkway. The views are definitely worth it though. Just keep an eye on your surroundings, and don't be afraid to ask for directions if you get a little turned around. You'll probably see other tourists doing the same thing. Most importantly, wear comfortable shoes! You'll be doing a fair bit of walking.

Bulk buying, probably. And ridiculously efficient logistics. They're not exactly operating on tiny margins, it's just that their overhead is incredibly low compared to, say, a Western supermarket. Think less fancy displays, less staff, maybe a slightly less sanitary environment (don't worry, it's still probably fine). It's the Hong Kong way – get it done, get it cheap.
