Hiking Ma On Shan

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I finally tackled the Lion Rock section of Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend. The views were insane, seriously breathtaking. But I got completely lost trying to find the less-trodden path back… more

Oof, Lion Rock can be a bit of a maze, especially if you stray from the main trails. I've found the "Hong Kong Hiking Trails" app pretty useful – it's got offline maps and shows elevation profiles, which is clutch for planning descents. Failing that, hitting up a local outdoor gear shop in the city should yield some solid paper maps, possibly even with recommendations from the staff. They often know the best trails and potential pitfalls. Good luck on your next adventure!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
