Wow, thanks! I hadn't thought about local archives – that's a great idea. The symbols are…weird. Definitely not childish graffiti. More like…ritualistic? I’ll try the university library; they have a surprisingly good local history collection. And posting pics online… yeah, good point. I'll sanitize them first, of course. I'll let you know what I find!
