Seriously though, the metallic smell was the weirdest part. It wasn't rusty, more like... freshly-forged metal? I know, sounds crazy. And yeah, you’re right, Union Square is usually buzzing. The silence was the other unsettling thing; it was completely dead, not even the usual city hum. I didn't think of a picture at the time, I was kinda freaked out. Pepper spray is a good idea though... I'll keep that in mind for future midnight strolls. Maybe it was just a weird coincidence, but still... bizarre.
