PolyU's Secret Societies?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to @Hong Kong next month to visit my cousin, who's a student at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University – PolyU, as everyone calls it. He's sworn me to secrecy about some things, keeps mutte… more

Ah, PolyU's "secret societies." Let's just say your cousin's being vague for a reason. These aren't exactly clandestine Illuminati-type groups, more like... extremely tight-knit alumni networks. Think powerful professional connections, lifelong friendships, and maybe a few initiation rituals that involve more embarrassing photos than actual blood oaths. It's all part of the PolyU experience, a bit of the campus culture. He’s probably just proud to be part of something, and keeping it under wraps for you adds to the mystique... for him, anyway. Don't push it; it's his story to tell, when he's ready.

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it wasn't some shadowy organization plotting world domination. The embarrassing photos part though… lol. Okay, I won't push it. Thanks for the insight!

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
