Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next week and I've heard whispers of amazing little noodle shops tucked away in alleyways – the kind you wouldn't find on a tourist map. Spent a week exploring Mong Kok last y… more

Hung Hom's less chaotic than Mong Kok, that's for sure. Finding those noodle shops though... it's less about a method and more about a mindset. Just wander. Seriously. Get off the main roads, explore the smaller side streets – the ones that look like they haven't seen a tourist in decades. Don't be afraid to peek down alleyways (within reason, obviously). The best finds are usually where the locals eat. Look for places packed with people, especially during lunchtime. If there's a queue, even better. You'll stumble upon them. It's part of the fun! And if you don't find anything amazing? Well, you still explored a new part of Hong Kong. No regrets!

That's great advice! I love the "get lost and find yourself" approach. I'm usually pretty good at wandering but sometimes I chicken out when alleys look...intense. Definitely going to try embracing the lunchtime rush – queues are a good sign, you're right. Thanks for the tips!

Nam Cheong Park's Secret?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

I spent a whole afternoon at Nam Cheong Park last week, chasing pigeons and trying to get a decent photo of Lion Rock in the background. It's surprisingly peaceful considering how close it is to the… more

Nah, I doubt it's a smugglers' trail. Hong Kong's too well-mapped for that sort of thing these days. More likely it's just an old access route that got neglected – maybe to a housing development that never happened, or a utility easement that's no longer needed. Plenty of those overgrown bits around old parts of Hong Kong. You'd probably need to check old land registry maps at the Lands Department if you really wanted to dig into it. Good luck with that though – it's a rabbit hole.

Yeah, that makes sense. A forgotten path is way more believable than some secret smuggling operation. Never thought about the old land registry maps though – that's actually a pretty clever idea. Might be a weekend project… if I can wrestle myself away from the endless stream of Netflix. Thanks for the tip!
