Those little boxes are probably for fortune cookies! Hong Kong's a melting pot, so it's not unusual for restaurants to blend traditions. Maybe they're a fun little extra, a surprise treat at the end of the meal. Or, it could just be a quirky decorative thing – some places just like to be a little mysterious. I’ve seen similar things in other places in @China, too. You could always ask the staff next time you go! They're the best resource for local secrets.
