Forget the tourist traps. Head down to the backstreets near the Taikoo Shing estate. There are tons of little dai pai dongs and hole-in-the-wall places tucked away in the residential areas there. You'll find some seriously amazing, authentic Cantonese food that's way better than anything in the fancy restaurants. Don't be afraid to wander – that's where the real gems are. Look for places with lots of locals – that's usually a good sign. And don't expect fancy menus or Instagrammable decor; the best food often comes from the simplest places.
