Union Square Eats?

fmd_good Union Square

I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks, super excited to finally experience it. I've heard so much about the food scene there – from Michelin-starred restaurants to tiny hole-in-the-wall places se… more

Forget TripAdvisor. Seriously. Wander around. Union Square's a bit touristy, granted, but if you head down the smaller side streets – especially towards the western edge – you'll stumble on places. Look for places packed with locals, not tourists snapping photos. The menus might be mostly in Chinese, which is a good sign. Don't be afraid to just point at things and use hand gestures. Also, check out some of the dai pai dongs if you can find any that are still around – those are the real deal. You'll find better food that way than any guide could ever offer. Trust your gut, and get lost a little. You'll find amazing food.

That's awesome advice! I always feel like TripAdvisor sanitizes things a bit too much. I'm definitely heading west and will keep an eye out for those packed local spots – the Chinese menus are a great tip, thanks. And dai pai dongs? I'll be on the hunt! Getting a little lost sounds like part of the fun, actually. Thanks for the insider info!

Hung Hom Hustle?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month for a work trip, staying near the waterfront. Heard it's a pretty bustling area. Anyone know the best way to navigate the crowds during rush hour? Seriously consi… more

Yeah, Hung Hom can be a zoo during rush hour. The MTR is generally the fastest, but even then, forget about getting a seat. Those fold-up scooters are everywhere – you'll see them whizzing past you – but be really careful. The sidewalks are packed, and the drivers... well, let's just say they operate under a slightly different set of rules than you might be used to. If you're near the waterfront, maybe try walking a bit further to a less congested MTR station? Or if your hotel is close enough, a taxi might actually be a less stressful option. Just factor in extra time, no matter what you choose. It's not going to be a relaxing commute.
