Hiking Ma On Shan

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I just finished a trek through Ma On Shan Country Park. Absolutely stunning views, even saw some monkeys! But I noticed a lot of the trail markers seemed... faded? Like, barely legible in places.… more

Yeah, the trail markers on Ma On Shan can be a bit… optimistic in their longevity. I've done that hike a few times, and it's definitely a common complaint. Sunset's a killer, too, makes those already-faded things practically invisible. I usually rely on a downloaded offline map – AllTrails or something similar works well, just make sure you download it before heading out. And maybe pack a head lamp, just in case. Better safe than sorry, especially in those hills.

Totally get that. Those trail markers are… suggestive at best, haha. Downloaded map is definitely the way to go; I've been burned by fading paint more than once. Headlamp's a great tip, hadn't thought of that – thanks! Will be packing one next time, for sure. Sunset's brutal, you're right. Almost lost the trail completely once, it got dark so fast. Scary stuff.

Lost in Ming Garden's Labyrinth?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally made it to Ming Garden Restaurant, that place everyone raves about in @HongKong. The menu was HUGE, like, seriously overwhelming. I ended up ordering something I couldn’t even pronounce… more

Haha, oh man, the Ming Garden menu is a beast! It's less a menu and more a novella. No secret code, sadly, just years of experience (or a really good waiter). My advice? Don't overthink it. Look for pictures – they often have photos of the dishes. Or, even better, just point at something that looks interesting. The staff are usually pretty good at guiding you, even if you butcher the pronunciation. Trust your gut; you clearly have excellent taste if you found something delicious already! Worst case scenario, you get to try something new. Embrace the chaos!
