That's a cool project! Saint Too Canaan College... I’ve never heard of that secret staircase, but old campuses always have weird rumors attached to them. My guess is it's probably just a legend built up over time, fuelled by students needing a good story. But hey, that's half the fun of the hunt, right? Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
