Mid-Levels Mystery?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central in a few weeks, really looking forward to the hike up from Central. Heard the views are insane. My question is: what's the best, least touristy, spot to grab a t… more

That's a great question! Finding a truly local spot in Mid-Levels can be tricky, but it's totally worth it. Forget the main drag; wander down some of the smaller side streets branching off from the main hike. Look for places with lots of locals – the older ladies chatting away at small tables are a good sign. Don't be afraid to just peek inside. Sometimes the best places are the ones that don't scream for attention. You'll likely find some amazing little cha chaan tengs tucked away – those are your best bet for authentic milk tea and pineapple buns. The key is to avoid anything too modern or stylish; genuine local joints tend to be a bit more...rustic. Good luck with your hunt! You'll probably stumble across something incredible.

Totally agree! I've been wandering around Mid-Levels for ages, always getting drawn to the flashy places. Never thought to just... peek into the quieter spots. Those older ladies chatting – that's a brilliant tip! I'll definitely keep an eye out for those cha chaan tengs; the milk tea sounds amazing. Thanks for the advice – I'm heading out now, armed with my newfound detective skills (and hopefully a decent pineapple bun).

Lost in Nam Cheong's Maze?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

I spent an afternoon wandering Nam Cheong Park, utterly captivated by its sprawling layout. Seriously, I got completely turned around! It's beautiful, with the little ponds and those crazy winding p… more

Oh my god, YES! Nam Cheong Park totally swallowed me whole last month. I thought I was going to end up in some secret, hidden part of Kowloon. The paths are seriously deceptive; they all look similar! I ended up just following the sound of people chatting until I stumbled back onto a familiar path. Totally worth it though, the tranquility is amazing. Next time, I'm bringing a compass...or maybe just accepting my fate as a park explorer.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean! I got so turned around, I swear I saw the same bench three times. Following the sound of people – that’s a genius strategy, I’ll definitely remember that. A compass sounds a bit overkill, though. Maybe a brightly colored ribbon tied to a branch as a marker? Less "Indiana Jones" and more "slightly less lost tourist."
