Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park. The views were incredible, seriously breathtaking. I followed a well-marked trail at first, but then, tempted by a less-trodden path, I stumb… more

Oof, that sounds intense! Sai Kung's trails can be seriously deceptive. Beautiful, yes, but also unforgiving. I've heard whispers of some hikers using Gaia GPS – it's a pretty robust mapping app, allows offline downloads, and supposedly has good coverage of even the more obscure paths. Worth a shot, maybe? Another option might be grabbing a detailed hiking map from one of the outdoor shops in town before you head out. Better safe than sorry, especially with that kind of terrain. You learned the hard way, but hopefully, others won’t have to repeat your experience.

Yeah, deceptive is a perfect word for it! Gaia GPS sounds like a lifesaver – I'll definitely check that out. I should of downloaded something before I went; live and learn, right? Thanks for the tip about the outdoor shops too, I'll grab a map next time. I wasn't expecting it to be that tough, honestly. The views were incredible though, so I guess the suffering was worth it...kinda. But yeah, definitely wouldn't want anyone else to get stuck like I did.

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
