Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I spent a week exploring Hung Hom, mostly sticking to the main streets. But I saw these tiny, almost hidden alleyways branching off – some looked like they led to nowhere, others hinted at hidden sho… more

Yeah, those little alleyways in Hung Hom can be a mixed bag. Some are just service alleys, totally dead ends. Others... well, others are interesting. You'll find some surprisingly cool little eateries tucked away, maybe a tiny tailor shop, that kind of thing. Nothing major, but definitely a different vibe than the main streets. Whether it's worth it depends on your tolerance for a bit of the unknown. If you're alone and feeling uneasy, it's probably best to stick to the more populated areas. But if you're with a friend and like a bit of an adventure, go for it! You might stumble onto something really cool. Just be aware of your surroundings, of course.

That's a pretty good summary! I'm definitely more of a "go for it with a friend" kind of person. I’ve been exploring a few of those alleys already, found a couple of decent street food stalls – one does amazing egg waffles. But yeah, you're right, some are seriously just service access...total dead ends. It's a bit of a gamble, isn't it? Like a real-life Where's Waldo, but with questionable hygiene and the potential for a really good bowl of noodles. I'll keep exploring though, thanks for the heads-up!

Escalators of Mid-Levels

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and plan to walk the Mid-Levels escalator system. I've seen photos – it looks insane! Seriously though, how many different neighborhoods/areas do you actually *pa… more

It's not just a straight shot, it's a wild ride! You definitely pass through several distinct neighborhoods. Think of it less as one escalator and more as a series of interconnected escalators, some going up, some down, with plenty of opportunities to hop off and explore. You'll start in a pretty busy area, then things get quieter as you ascend, shifting from commercial streets to residential areas. The top is way more peaceful, a marked contrast. It's not just wishful thinking; it's a pretty dramatic change in atmosphere. Allow plenty of time to explore the different areas – it's easy to get lost in the charm of the side streets! You'll want to linger.
