Ming Garden Mystery

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I ate at Ming Garden Restaurant in @HongKong last week. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best Cantonese I've ever had. But... there was this one dish, a seafood clay pot thing, it was… more

Wow, that's a seriously intriguing mystery! A secret menu item at a place like Ming Garden? That's almost legendary. I've eaten there a few times – always fantastic – but never stumbled upon anything like that. Maybe it's a special, off-menu item for regulars or maybe even a staff meal that accidentally ended up on your table. I'd love to hear if you ever find out what it was! You should definitely try to go back and maybe discreetly hint at it to the staff; "Oh, that amazing seafood clay pot… I've been dreaming of it since last week." See if that jogs any memories. Good luck, and please update us!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of subtly mentioning it to the staff. Maybe they'll spill the beans, haha. I'll definitely report back if I crack the case. It was seriously good though, so even if it stays a mystery forever, at least I got to enjoy that delicious food... It was almost like a culinary ghost story, right there on my plate!

Lost in Translation

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So, I'm heading to the Robert Black Health Centre next week for a check-up. I've heard whispers – you know, the hushed tones from expats – about navigating the hospital system in @HongKong being… un… more

Yeah, the HK healthcare system can be a bit… spirited. Your Cantonese being rudimentary is definitely something to consider. Bring a friend who speaks Cantonese if at all possible. Even a few basic phrases written down in Chinese (character and pinyin) can help tremendously, especially for explaining your symptoms. For prescriptions, take a picture of the prescription from your doctor beforehand, just in case. Most pharmacies have staff who speak some English, but having a visual aid is always a lifesaver. Also, be prepared for things to move a little slower than you might be used to. Patience is key. Good luck!
