Honestly, the food scene near HKU is a mixed bag. You'll definitely find plenty of student-priced cafes – think quick, cheap, and cheerful. But to find the good stuff, you gotta wander a bit. There are some amazing little dai pai dongs tucked away in the side streets around Bonham Road and Caine Road. They're not exactly glamorous, but the food is usually authentic and seriously tasty – and way cheaper than the cafes on campus. It's worth exploring those areas. Also, check out the little places in the residential areas just off the main roads; you'll find some surprisingly good and affordable eats that aren't plastered all over tourist brochures. Don't be afraid to just walk around and see what you discover! You might even find some hidden gems... just keep your eyes peeled.
