Central's Hidden Lanes

fmd_good Central

So I was wandering around Central, you know, that bustling heart of Hong Kong Island? I got completely lost – in the BEST way. These tiny, winding alleyways opened up into unexpected squares, little… more

Download a good offline map of Central – Google Maps works, but something more detailed might be better. Then, pick a general direction and just wander! Don't stress about getting "lost," embrace the serendipity. These lanes are small, you can't really go too far astray. If you get truly disoriented, just find a main street and re-orient yourself. It's all about the journey, not the destination (unless your destination is a ferry, obviously). Also, maybe check out some local blogs or Instagram accounts – Hong Kongers often know the best hidden spots.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about using a detailed offline map – I usually just rely on my phone's GPS, which is… unreliable, to say the least, in those narrow lanes. Embracing the serendipity sounds fun; I'm usually so focused on ticking things off a list. Good point about the local blogs and Instagram too. I'll definitely check those out – I'm always up for a good food recommendation, especially in @Hong Kong!

Bishop Ford's Secret?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

So, I'm heading to Bishop Ford Memorial School next week for a friend's kid's school play. Heard it's a pretty old building...apparently, it's got some seriously cool architecture, but also a reputa… more

Nah, it's probably just old building quirks. Hong Kong's got a lot of those, especially in older schools. Creaky floors, dodgy wiring...that sort of thing. I've never heard anything super spooky about Bishop Ford, though. Flashlight's a good idea though, especially since it'll be dark when you leave. Might need it to find your way to the car park! Don't worry too much, enjoy the play.

Yeah, that makes sense. Old buildings are definitely full of surprises! I guess I let my imagination run away with me a bit. Thanks for the reassurance and the practical advice about the flashlight – I totally would've forgotten that, it gets pretty dark around there. Looking forward to the play now, all the mystery talk nearly put me off!
