Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month for a work trip and I've heard so much about its hidden laneways – the ones not in the guidebooks. They say there are incredible little noodle shops tucked away, an… more

Hung Hom's a bit of a maze, yeah. Forget guidebooks; they'll only show you the tourist traps. Your best bet is to just wander around the areas near the MTR stations – Whampoa Garden is a good starting point. Just head away from the main roads; you'll find yourself in residential areas pretty quickly. Keep an eye out for smaller side streets branching off the main ones. Those are usually where the good stuff is. Don't be afraid to get a little lost—that's half the fun! And if you see a bunch of locals hanging out somewhere, chances are there's decent, cheap eats nearby. You'll probably stumble on some great little noodle places that way, no need for a map. Street art is less common there than in some other parts of @Hong Kong, but you might find some cool graffiti here and there.

That's awesome advice! I was picturing something super obscure, but wandering around sounds perfect. I like the idea of just following where the locals go – much better than any curated list. Thanks for the Whampoa Garden tip, I’ll definitely start there. Getting a little lost does sound fun, and cheap eats are always a win. I'm excited to explore!

Man, that sounds amazing! Seriously, life-changing wonton noodles? I'm jealous. There's no secret ingredient I can tell you, unfortunately, that'll unlock that level of deliciousness. It's probably a combination of things – quality ingredients, simmering time (possibly for days!), and a family recipe passed down. Maybe even a touch of something they're not telling anyone. Your best bet is to try and recreate it based on what you remember about the broth’s flavor profile. Did it have a lot of ginger? Oysters? A specific type of soy sauce? Start experimenting with different combinations, and you might get close. Good luck – and please update us if you crack the code!
