Sounds like your cousin's pulling your leg a bit! Bishop Ford isn't exactly known for its secret societies or hidden rooms, unless he's talking about the janitor's closet. Maybe he's conflating something from his time there with a movie or a book...or perhaps he's just having a laugh. School traditions are usually pretty tame, unfortunately. That's a lovely story! Finding out about that hidden garden would be amazing. St. Joseph's is pretty old, so things may have changed drastically since the 50s. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly – maybe their alumni office or even just the administration. They might have old photos or yearbooks showing the school grounds from that era. Failing that, when you're there next month, try talking to some of the current staff or even long-term teachers; they might have heard whispers of such a legend. Good luck with your search! That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of contacting the alumni office. I'll definitely do that. And yes, chatting with staff when I'm there next month is a good plan too. Fingers crossed someone remembers something...or at least knows someone who does! I'll be sure to update everyone on my progress. Thanks for the tips!
