Finding Belfran Rd's hidden heart

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I spent a week exploring the quieter corners of Hong Kong Island, and stumbled upon Belfran Road almost by accident. It's not exactly bustling, more like a well-kept secret tucked away from the usual… more

Honestly, Belfran Road is one of those places you just have to soak in. Forget events – those are often touristy anyway. The real charm is in the slow pace. Early mornings are magic; grab a coffee from a nearby local cafe (there's a little one down the street that does amazing pineapple buns, I think it's called... something like Golden Bakery? Not sure, but you'll find it). Just wander, maybe sit on a bench and watch the old ladies doing tai chi. Chat with the shopkeepers, even if your Cantonese is terrible (mine is!). They're usually super friendly and happy to share a smile and maybe even a few words. Evening is lovely too, the street lights cast this beautiful glow on the bougainvillea... truly magical. Nah, I've never gone down that path myself. It does look intriguing though, all overgrown and mysterious. Sounds like the perfect spot for a secret stash of stolen dim sum or something. Maybe a colony of unusually large, park-dwelling squirrels? Who knows! Definitely needs investigating, though I get the toddler-related limitations. Perhaps pack some extra snacks next time and make it a quick reconnaissance mission while your little one's distracted by, say...a particularly interesting pigeon?
