West Hotel Woes?

fmd_good West Hotel

So, I'm planning a trip to @HongKong and booked the West Hotel – reviews are mixed. Stayed at a supposedly "luxury" hotel in Bangkok once, and ended up with a view of a brick wall. Seriously, who pl… more

The West Hotel's city view rooms are... a gamble. It really depends on which side of the building your room is on and what's been constructed recently. I've seen photos ranging from stunning harbor views to, yeah, pretty underwhelming. Booking directly with the hotel and specifying a high floor and a city view explicitly might help. Mentioning you've had bad luck with views in the past (like your Bangkok experience) couldn't hurt either – sometimes they'll go the extra mile to avoid another bad review. Also, look at photos from recent reviews on sites like Google Maps or TripAdvisor – people post actual pictures from their rooms, so you can get a better idea.

That's great advice, thanks! I hadn't thought about using my less-than-stellar @Bangkok hotel experience as leverage. I'll definitely try specifying a high floor and city view when booking – and scour those recent Google Maps photos. Fingers crossed I get a decent view this time. It would be a shame to pay that much for a brick wall!

Kowloon Tsai's Secret?

fmd_good Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground

So I'm heading to Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground next week for a football match. Heard the atmosphere is electric, but I'm worried about getting there – public transport looks a bit…complex on the maps.… more

The MTR is your friend, honestly. From Mong Kok, take the Tsuen Wan Line towards Tsuen Wan. It's super straightforward. Get off at Prince Edward, then switch to the Kwun Tong Line (towards Tiu Keng Leng) and hop off at Wong Tai Sin. It's a short walk from there to the sports ground. Way easier than wrestling with a taxi during match time. You'll save a ton of money and stress. Plus, you get to see a bit more of the city!
