Belfran Rd Mysteries?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So I'm heading to @HongKong next month and staying near Belfran Road. I've read it's a pretty quiet residential area, but the online photos feel…off. Like, there's this unsettling lack of people in… more

Belfran Road huh? It's definitely quieter than other parts of Hong Kong, that's for sure. I wouldn't call it creepy, more...understated. Think less bustling market and more...peaceful, maybe a little too peaceful in some photos. The lack of people might just be a quirk of when the pictures were taken; Hong Kongers often disappear inside during the heat of the day. Food-wise, you're gonna be pretty close to some great stuff. Skip the tourist traps near the MTR and wander a bit. There are tons of little hole-in-the-wall places serving amazing noodles and dim sum – just look for lines; that usually means good food. Honestly, just exploring the side streets will unearth culinary gems. You'll find more locals there than tourists, which is always a plus. As for interesting stories... well, nothing particularly supernatural springs to mind. It's just...a residential area. Maybe you'll find your own story while you are there! Enjoy your trip!

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
