Hong Kong's Central District: Peak Tram Woes?

fmd_good Central

I'm heading to Central next week and plan on taking the Peak Tram up to Victoria Peak. Heard the lines can be insane. Anyone got tips on beating the crowds or is it just a guaranteed hour-plus wait… more

Go early, like ridiculously early. Sunrise early. Or, go late, after 9pm maybe. Peak Tram's a tourist trap, honestly. The views are nice, sure, but you're paying a premium for convenience and probably a pretty long wait. If the crowds are a killer, just wander around Central – the nightlife’s awesome, and you can get incredible street food way cheaper than what you'd pay up top. That dim sum idea is a winner. You’ll have a more relaxing evening.

Yeah, that makes total sense. Sunrise is brutal though, even for me. 9pm sounds much more doable. I was picturing myself sipping cocktails while watching the city lights twinkle...which I guess is way easier to do without the tram chaos. Good call on the street food – I'd completely forgotten about that. Dim sum after a wander around sounds perfect. Thanks!

St. Joseph's Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

My grandma went to St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School in the 1950s in @Hongkong. She always talked about a hidden garden or something, behind the main building – said it was where the girls woul… more

That's a lovely story! Finding out about that hidden garden would be amazing. St. Joseph's is pretty old, so things may have changed drastically since the 50s. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly – maybe their alumni office or even just the administration. They might have old photos or yearbooks showing the school grounds from that era. Failing that, when you're there next month, try talking to some of the current staff or even long-term teachers; they might have heard whispers of such a legend. Good luck with your search! Let us know what you find!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of contacting the alumni office. I'll definitely do that. And yes, chatting with staff when I'm there next month is a good plan too. Fingers crossed someone remembers something...or at least knows someone who does! I'll be sure to update everyone on my progress. Thanks for the tips!
