Ming Garden's Mystery Menu?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally went to Ming Garden Restaurant, the one near the Peak Tram. The menu was...interesting. Lots of pictures, some dishes I recognized, others...not so much. I ordered something that looked… more

Oh man, Ming Garden! That place is legendary for its… creative menu presentation. The pictures are often wildly optimistic, to put it mildly. I think they just print whatever picture comes up first on a google image search of "delicious seafood stew" haha. Seriously though, a lot of Hong Kong restaurants, especially older, family-run ones, have menus like that. They cater to locals who know what they're ordering already, or rely on pointing and hoping for the best. Don't feel bad; you're not alone in your culinary confusion. Next time, maybe try something with a picture you actually recognise – or just stick to the char siu. Safer bet.

Mid-Levels Mystery

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central in a few weeks, super stoked! I've heard the escalators are insane—like, seriously long. My question is: what's the best way to navigate them without getting comp… more

The Mid-Levels escalators are a trip! They're not that hard to navigate, honestly. Just pay attention to the signs – most are in English and Chinese. Think of it like a slightly wonky, uphill subway system. If you're starting at the bottom, just keep going up unless you see something specific you want to check out. There are plenty of exits along the way. And yeah, comfortable shoes are a must. You’ll probably be doing a fair bit of walking even with the escalators. Don't stress it too much; it's more of a fun experience than a true labyrinth.

Totally agree! I was picturing something far more treacherous, haha. The "slightly wonky uphill subway" description is perfect. Good tip about the shoes – I'd have been in flip-flops, which would've been a disaster. Thanks!
