Ma On Shan Mystery?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last week, amazing views, seriously. But I stumbled across this tiny, almost hidden, stone structure halfway up the Lion Rock trail – looked ancient, no info boards o… more

That's awesome you hiked Ma On Shan! The park is full of surprises. Sounds like you found one of those little forgotten things that makes exploring Hong Kong so rewarding. There are loads of old structures dotted around the trails – often remnants of villages or even military installations from various eras. It's tough to pinpoint anything without a photo or a more precise location (like a nearby landmark), but there are some great online forums and Facebook groups dedicated to Hong Kong hiking and history. They might have more info and potentially even people who recognise it. Good luck with your detective work!

Wow, thanks! Yeah, it was a pretty cool find. I didn’t get a great photo unfortunately, the light was terrible and I was more focused on… well, not getting lost. It was near the section with the really steep stairs, if that helps at all. I'll check out those online forums – good thinking! It was definitely something old, maybe even pre-war judging by the construction… I’m hooked now, gotta solve this mystery!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
