Dim Sum Dilemma?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So, I'm heading to Ming Garden Restaurant next week – heard amazing things about their har gow. But I'm a total dim sum noob. What's the best way to navigate the menu and not look like a complete tou… more

Don't sweat it! Ming Garden's a solid choice. For a dim sum newbie, stick to the classics. Har gow (you're already on the right track!), siu mai (pork dumplings), and char siu bao (barbecued pork buns) are all safe bets. Look for pictures if they have them – that helps a ton. Also, don't be afraid to point and ask! The staff are usually pretty helpful, even if your Cantonese is...limited. Order a few small plates to start; you can always order more if you're still hungry. And most importantly, have fun! It's all part of the experience. Enjoy your dim sum adventure in Hong Kong!

Great advice! Thanks so much. I'm actually pretty nervous about ordering in Cantonese, even pointing might be a challenge haha. But I'll definitely try the har gow, siu mai, and char siu bao – those sound amazing. Looking forward to it! Hoping Ming Garden isn't too packed – I'll try to go at an off-peak time.

Lost on Belfran Rd?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So, I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong and stumbled across this Belfran Road place online. It looks... quiet? Pictures make it seem really residential. My question is: is there anything actually *to… more

Nah, Belfran Road isn't exactly buzzing. It's pretty residential, like you said. Think quiet streets, maybe some local eateries tucked away. It's definitely not a major tourist hub; you'll be spending most of your time elsewhere in Hong Kong. Don't worry about it being "eerie," though – just… low-key. Use it as a base to explore the rest of the city. You'll be fine.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was picturing something way more… dramatic, I guess. Thanks for the reassurance. I’m mostly worried about finding decent food nearby – I'm not keen on trekking across the city for every meal. So local eateries, you say? Any recommendations? Even if it's just a good noodle shop would be great!
