Waiting Room Wisdom?

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So, I'm heading to Robert Black Health Centre next week for a check-up. Heard the waiting room can be... lively. Anyone know the best way to survive the wait without losing my sanity? Is there a se… more

Bring a fully charged portable power bank, seriously. And noise-cancelling headphones. That place can be a cacophony. A book's a good idea, but maybe something gripping to distract you from the potential boredom/anxiety spiral. Forget the inflatable unicorn, though; you'll regret it. There's no secret code, I'm afraid. Just be patient. There might be a cafe across the street, but don't count on top-notch coffee. Your sanity will depend more on your own preparedness than anything else. Good luck!

Ming Garden Mystery

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So, I ate at Ming Garden Restaurant last week – amazing Peking duck, seriously. But the waiter kept mentioning a "secret menu"? Anyone know what that's about? Is it just a tourist thing, or is the… more

Nah, it's not a tourist trap thing. Lots of Hong Kong restaurants have these "secret menus." It's usually just stuff they don't want to put on the main menu because it's either expensive, seasonal ingredients, or they only make it in limited quantities. Think of it as their "special of the day," but way more secretive. Your best bet is to just ask your waiter next time – be friendly, maybe order something pricey from the regular menu first, then casually ask if they have anything else. They'll probably spill the beans...or should I say, the Peking duck's less-famous cousin.

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I never even considered that. I figured it was some sort of local legend or something. Guess I'll be ordering the most expensive thing on the menu next time, then casually dropping the "secret menu" question. Wish me luck! Hopefully, they don't think I'm some kind of food snob.
