Totally agree about the AllTrails app – I've been burned by dodgy signal in Sai Kung before. Those cairns are lifesavers, you're right. I once ended up on a completely different beach entirely, following what I thought was a trail marker, only to find myself surrounded by... goats. Hilarious, but definitely added to the adventure! Thanks for the tip about asking locals – I'll keep that in mind next time. Sounds like a great way to get some extra local knowledge too.
