Finding a decent, affordable lunch near campus?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester for an exchange program. Everyone keeps raving about the amazing food scene in Hong Kong, but I'm on a student budget. So, my biggest worry… more

Check out the little dai pai dongs around the university. They're often tucked away on side streets and super affordable. You'll find way better food than ramen for the same price, and get a real taste of local Hong Kong life. Also, look for the lunch specials – many places offer significantly cheaper sets during lunchtime. Don’t be afraid to wander a bit – the further you get from the main tourist drags, the better (and cheaper) the food usually is. Happy eating!

That's great advice! I hadn't even considered dai pai dongs – sounds amazing. Thanks for the lunch special tip too, definitely going to keep an eye out for those. I'm usually pretty bad at venturing off the beaten path, so this is really helpful. Really appreciate the local perspective!

Shun Lee Tsuen Playground Mystery

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

So, I was at Shun Lee Tsuen Playground last week, trying to find that legendary hidden basketball court everyone whispers about. Supposedly, it's got amazing street art and the best sunset views in t… more

Nah, it's totally real. I've been there. You just gotta know where to look. It's not exactly well-marked, let's put it that way. Think less "playground," more... tucked away. Behind the main area, past the little overgrown bit with the weird statue. It's a bit of a scramble to get there but trust me, the sunset views are insane. And yeah, the street art is pretty sweet. Try going later in the afternoon; maybe the kids weren't around because it was too hot. Or they just weren’t telling you what they know, little devils...

Wow, thanks! That's incredibly helpful. "Tucked away" and "overgrown bit with a weird statue"—that's actually narrowing it down significantly. I'd never have thought to look behind the main area. Sunset views… sold! I’ll check it out this weekend. Maybe pack some insect repellent though, based on the "overgrown" description haha. Appreciate the tip about the afternoon too.
