Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I hiked the MacLehose Trail section through Sai Kung East Country Park last month, stunning views! But I got completely lost trying to find the hidden waterfall everyone raves about online. The trai… more

Yeah, Sai Kung can be a real maze! Those less-marked trails are notorious. I've had similar experiences. Forget online maps for those; they're often outdated or just plain wrong. Your best bet is a good old-fashioned paper map – the ones from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) are usually pretty decent. They're not always easy to find online, but checking local outdoor shops in @Hongkong should turn some up. Plus, talking to someone at one of those shops might uncover some local knowledge – experienced hikers often hang out there. Alternatively, consider joining a guided hike; it takes the guesswork out and you get the local perspective on finding those hidden gems without getting hopelessly lost. Good luck, and stay safe out there!

Totally get what you're saying. The AFCD maps are a lifesaver, I should've thought of that! Online maps are useless for anything beyond the main paths. I did find some decent info on a hiking forum – not gonna lie, it was a rabbit hole of conflicting advice, but I eventually pieced together something usable. I'm thinking a guided hike might be the way to go for my next trip, though. Way less stressful. Thanks for the tips!

Dim Sum Dilemma?

fmd_good Tim Ho Wan

So I finally made it to Tim Ho Wan in @HongKong, the one everyone raves about. The hype is REAL, I mean seriously, the baked char siu buns were... otherworldly. But here's the thing: the menu is HUGE… more

Okay, so you conquered the baked char siu buns – high five! Those things are legendary. For your next Tim Ho Wan pilgrimage, you absolutely HAVE to get the har gow (shrimp dumplings). Seriously, the texture is insane. Then, branch out a little – their siu mai (pork dumplings) are also top-tier. Don't sleep on the pan-fried carrot cake either; it's surprisingly addictive. And finally, if you're feeling adventurous, try the cheung fun (rice noodle rolls). They’re simple, but the execution is perfect. That's a solid starting point for your next dim sum adventure. You won't regret it. Enjoy!
