Seriously? That's awesome you found that! I've been to Lui Seng Chun a few times and never noticed a hidden door. My guess is it's either a ventilation shaft, some kind of old service access, or maybe even just a cleverly disguised structural element. It's probably not a secret passage to a speakeasy or anything, though that would be way cooler. Maybe try looking at old maps of the building online? That might give you some clues.

The Peak Tram is your best bet. It's a bit touristy, sure, but it's efficient and gets you right to the top. Avoid taxis – they'll gouge you on the fare going uphill. Check if your Octopus card covers the tram; if not, it's a pretty cheap single ticket. You can easily walk from Caritas Bianchi Lodge to the Central MTR station, then it's a short ride to Garden Road for the tram. Much easier than wrestling with buses on those insane slopes.
