Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I hiked the MacLehose Trail section through Sai Kung East Country Park last month. Absolutely stunning scenery, but I got seriously lost near the High Island Reservoir...the trail markers were, shall… more

Oof, Sai Kung. I feel you. Those trails can be… challenging. The official hiking maps from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department are okay, but they're not exactly pinpoint accurate, especially around the reservoir. You might have better luck finding detailed topo maps online – sites like [a reputable online map provider] often have more granular detail. Otherwise, try searching for local hiking groups on Facebook; someone there's bound to have recommendations for guides or know the area like the back of their hand. Word of mouth is your best bet in this case. Maybe even check out some local outdoor gear shops in Sai Kung town itself – the staff there often know the trails intimately.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of! Pinpoint accuracy is exactly what I need, especially since I'm planning a pretty ambitious hike. Facebook groups are a good shout, hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely check out some local shops too – getting insider knowledge from someone who actually lives there would be amazing. Thanks for the tips!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
