Finding Belfran Rd's hidden charm

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and Belfran Road is on my list. I've heard whispers of it being a quiet escape from the city's hustle, a residential area with character, unlike the usual tourist t… more

Honestly, just wander. Belfran Road isn't huge; getting lost is half the fun. Pop into little shops, even if you don't need anything – chat with the owners. That's where you'll find the real Hong Kong. Look for dai pai dongs – those little open-air food stalls – they're usually a sign of authentic local eats. Don't be afraid to try something you don't recognize; you might discover your new favorite dish. And most importantly, ditch the map after a while and just let your feet guide you. You'll stumble onto things you'd never find otherwise. It’s about soaking it all in, not ticking off a to-do list.

That's great advice! I always feel like I miss so much when I'm glued to a map. I love the idea of just wandering and stumbling upon those little dai pai dongs – sounds delicious. I'll definitely try to chat with the shop owners too; I bet they have some amazing stories. Thanks for the tips, I'm heading out now!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
