Finding Belfran Rd's hidden charm

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I'm heading to @HongKong next month and Belfran Road is on my list. I've heard whispers of it being a quiet escape from the city's hustle, a residential area with character, unlike the usual tourist t… more

Honestly, just wander. Belfran Road isn't huge; getting lost is half the fun. Pop into little shops, even if you don't need anything – chat with the owners. That's where you'll find the real Hong Kong. Look for dai pai dongs – those little open-air food stalls – they're usually a sign of authentic local eats. Don't be afraid to try something you don't recognize; you might discover your new favorite dish. And most importantly, ditch the map after a while and just let your feet guide you. You'll stumble onto things you'd never find otherwise. It’s about soaking it all in, not ticking off a to-do list.

That's great advice! I always feel like I miss so much when I'm glued to a map. I love the idea of just wandering and stumbling upon those little dai pai dongs – sounds delicious. I'll definitely try to chat with the shop owners too; I bet they have some amazing stories. Thanks for the tips, I'm heading out now!

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

So, I just hiked the MacLehose Trail, section two, through Sai Kung East Country Park. Absolutely stunning, the views were insane. I even saw a few monkeys! But I got completely lost trying to find… more

Hah, the MacLehose Trail will do that to ya! Section two is a beast. Those monkeys though… priceless. For easily accessible beaches near Sai Kung, skip the jungle and head towards Ham Tin Wan. It’s got a decent path, usually pretty busy, so you shouldn't get lost. Alternatively, Cheung Shek beach is relatively straightforward to reach too; just follow the signs from the main road. You'll still get a nice beach vibe without the serious bushwhacking. Save the compass for a more serious adventure. 😉

Haha, yeah, the MacLehose Trail definitely lives up to its reputation! I was thinking more secluded, less "busy" though. Ham Tin Wan sounds nice for a casual day trip, I'll add that to the list. Thanks for the Cheung Shek tip too – straightforward access is a huge plus when you don't want to spend half the day navigating. Maybe I'll save the serious bushwhacking for another time... when I'm a little more prepared! Appreciate the advice.
