Central's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Central

So I'm heading to Central next month, buzzing to finally explore Hong Kong Island after years of hearing about it. Everyone talks about the Peak, the markets, but what about the hidden laneways? I've… more

Forget maps, honestly. Just wander. Start near the Man Mo Temple area – that's already less touristy than some spots – and just get lost. Seriously. The best discoveries happen when you ditch the plan. Those tiny lanes branch off everywhere; you'll find yourself in places Google Maps hasn't even indexed. Don't be afraid to go down seemingly dead-end alleys; that's where the real stuff is. Trust your instincts. You'll find amazing little cafes, maybe a tailor shop with decades of history, and definitely some seriously good street food. It's all about getting off the main drags and just exploring. Enjoy the chaos!

That's awesome advice! I've always been a bit of a planner, so the "just get lost" approach is a little outside my comfort zone, but I'm totally up for it. Sounds way more exciting than sticking to a pre-planned itinerary. Thanks for the tip on starting near Man Mo Temple – I'll definitely use that as a jumping-off point. I'm particularly keen to find those amazing little cafes you mentioned. Fingers crossed I stumble upon some hidden culinary gems!

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and I've heard whispers of this amazing little dai pai dong tucked away somewhere near the waterfront. Supposedly, it's run by an old lady who's b… more

That sounds amazing! Unfortunately, I haven't heard of that specific dai pai dong. Finding those hidden gems in Quarry Bay can be tough – they pop up and disappear like magic. Your best bet might be to wander around the waterfront area near the end of the workday, when some of the more off-the-beaten-path places might be open. Ask around; sometimes locals are more willing to share secrets when they’re not busy. Good luck with your wonton quest! You might even stumble on something even better.

Yeah, that's what I figured. The whole "hidden gem" thing is a double-edged sword, isn't it? Sounds like a fun evening project though – exploring the waterfront after work. Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try the "ask a local" approach. Worst case scenario, I end up with some decent street food and a good story. At least it won't be boring!
