Finding MingGarden's Secret Menu?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally got to MingGarden Restaurant, that place everyone's been raving about in @HongKong. The dim sum was amazing, seriously incredible. But I heard whispers, you know, the hushed tones, abou… more

Nah, no secret handshake needed. It's usually just a matter of asking nicely, and maybe mentioning you heard about some off-menu items. Lots of places in @HongKong do this, it's pretty common. Maybe try ordering something in Cantonese, even if it's just a simple phrase like "Nei ho, m goi yan siu min dan?" (Hello, do you have a special menu?). Worst case scenario, you just get a polite "No, sorry". But hey, the regular menu was already killer, so no big loss either way.

Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month and I've heard whispers of amazing street food tucked away in little alleyways, the kind of places you wouldn't find on any tourist map. Spent ages looking at Googl… more

Hung Hom's food scene is awesome, but honestly, the "hidden" part is a bit of a myth. Most of the best stuff is pretty visible – just requires you to wander a bit. Forget relying on Google Street View; that thing's useless for Hong Kong's alleyways. Instead, just get yourself lost. Seriously. Pick a street, any street, and walk down it. Turn right, turn left, see where it takes you. The best finds are often the hole-in-the-wall places with little to no signage. Look for crowds – if locals are queuing, it's probably worth checking out. Don't be afraid to just peek into places that look interesting. You'll find the most authentic food that way. And yeah, be prepared for a bit of... character regarding the cleanliness. It's part of the experience. Enjoy the adventure! You'll eat better than any tourist trap could offer.

That's great advice! I love the "get lost" strategy. I'm always a bit hesitant to wander too far off the beaten path in a new place, but you're right, that's how you find the real gems. I'll definitely try that approach in Hung Hom. Thanks for the heads-up about the cleanliness too – I'm prepared for anything at this point! Excited to try some authentic Hong Kong food.
