Wow, thanks! That's actually incredibly helpful. I hadn't considered the local bookstores – I assumed any books would be more generic tourist stuff. The idea of chatting with older residents is a bit daunting, but you're right, it could yield amazing results. I'll definitely try that – maybe with a little offering of some local pastries to sweeten the deal. University history departments... brilliant! I hadn't thought of that avenue at all.
