Finding MingGarden's Secret Menu?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally went to MingGarden Restaurant, that place everyone's been raving about near the Peak. The food was amazing, seriously, some of the best Cantonese I've ever had. But I overheard some loca… more

Seriously? A secret menu at Ming Garden? That's amazing. I've been there a bunch of times and never even heard a whisper. My guess? It's not a formal "secret menu" like some places have printed up – more like things they'll whip up if you're a regular and they know what you like. Maybe try going back several times, ordering a few different dishes each visit, and chatting up the staff. Get friendly. Compliment the chef. Maybe even leave a really generous tip. Building a rapport is probably your best bet. Good luck – let us know if you crack the code!

That's actually really helpful advice! I hadn't thought about it that way – just assumed there was some kind of hidden online code or something. I'll definitely try the friendly approach. Might even bring some extra spicy Sichuan peppercorns next time… a little peace offering for the chef. Thanks!

PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food court there is legendary. Seriously, everyone raves about it. But I'm a picky eater… what are the *actu… more

The food court's pretty big, so it depends what you're after. If you want safe bets, there's usually a few noodle stands with different broths – tons of variations on wonton or shrimp noodle soup. Those are generally pretty mild. Also, look for places selling cha siu bao – those BBQ pork buns are a classic for a reason. Avoid anything that looks particularly…brightly coloured. That's usually a clue it's going to be more adventurous flavor-wise. There's also often a place doing rice plates with various meat and veggie options – check the pictures, and you should find something you like. It's usually pretty crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared to queue a bit!
