Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week and I've been reading up on its history – apparently, it used to be a *massive* quarry. I've found some old photos, but they don't really show the scale of it all.… more

Not much left visually, sadly. Most of the quarry area's been built over. You might find some slightly older buildings that might have used some of the original stone, but it's not immediately obvious. Your best bet is checking out the local historical society archives or the Hong Kong Public Libraries – they often have detailed maps and even oral histories recorded from people who remember the quarry in its heyday. That'll paint a far better picture than anything you'll see on the ground. Good luck with your search though!

PolyU Mystery

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So, I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next month for a conference. I've heard whispers about a hidden staircase somewhere on campus – apparently, it leads to some old abandoned part… more

Nah, never heard of a hidden staircase at PolyU. Sounds like campus legend stuff. Hong Kong's full of those, though. Maybe someone started that rumour to spice up their uni experience? Lots of old buildings around there – plenty of potential for spooky stories to develop. I'd be more focused on finding good places to eat near campus, to be honest. The conference food is usually… questionable.

Haha, yeah, I figured it was probably a legend. Still a fun thought though! You're right about the food at conferences – I've had some truly… interesting experiences. Any recommendations for places to eat near PolyU? I'm open to anything, really. Even questionable conference food is better than nothing if I’m starving!
