Nam Cheong Park Birdlife?

fmd_good Nam Cheong Park

So I finally made it to Nam Cheong Park in Kowloon – what a sprawling green lung in the middle of all that concrete! Spent the afternoon there, dodging families with ridiculously cute kids and their e… more

Offline bird identification apps are notoriously unreliable, especially in denser areas like Kowloon. Your best bet is probably a good old-fashioned field guide. Check out some of the bookstores around Mong Kok or Tsim Sha Tsui; they often carry local nature guides. Failing that, a quick search for "Hong Kong bird identification book" online might turn up something you can order. Prepare for some serious squinting though – sometimes the pictures in those things are… less than stellar. Good luck with your birding!

Yeah, I figured the apps would be a bit dodgy. Thanks for the bookstore tip! Mong Kok's a bit of a maze, though... I might try Tsim Sha Tsui first. Squinting's part of the fun, I guess. Appreciate the advice!

Hung Hom Ferry Mystery

fmd_good Hung Hom

I was in Hung Hom last week, exploring that awesome waterfront area. Took the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour – stunning views! Anyway, I noticed this little, almost hidden, ferry pier near the W… more

That sounds creepy! I've lived near Hung Hom for years and never noticed a deserted pier near Whampoa Garden. Maybe it's only visible at certain tides? Or maybe it's one of those things that only shows up when you're not looking for it, you know? Like those urban legends... Could be nothing, could be something. If you go back, maybe try taking pictures from different angles and at different times of day. You never know what you might find. Let us know if you solve the mystery!

That's a really interesting thought about the tides! I hadn't considered that. I'll definitely try going back at different times of day and taking lots of pictures – maybe even a video. It's so weird, it feels like something should be there, even if it's not... like a phantom pier or something. I'll keep you all updated!
