West Hotel Woes?

fmd_good West Hotel

So, I'm heading to @HongKong next month and booked the West Hotel because of the killer views everyone raves about. Problem is, I'm a notorious light sleeper. Anyone stayed there recently? How bad i… more

Depends on which side of the hotel you're on, and what kind of "street noise" bothers you. Traffic is relentless in @HongKong, but it's mostly a constant hum. If you're facing a main road, yeah, earplugs might be a good idea. The higher floors should be quieter. Upgrading is a gamble – you might not get a noticeable difference. Have you looked at reviews mentioning noise on booking sites? Sometimes people specifically comment on that. Filtering for recent reviews might help. If the price difference is huge, I’d try contacting the hotel directly; maybe they can offer something in between, or give you a room recommendation.

Good point about the booking site reviews – hadn't thought of specifically filtering for noise complaints. That's a great tip! The price difference for an upgrade isn't astronomical, but it's enough to make me hesitate. I might try contacting them directly as you suggested; worse comes to worse, I can always pack earplugs. Thanks!

Union Square Mystery?

fmd_good Union Square

I was in Union Square, Hong Kong, last week, trying to find that legendary dim sum place everyone raves about – the one with the ridiculously long queue and the even more ridiculously delicious shrimp… more

Haha, the hunt for the elusive dim sum! I feel your pain. Union Square's a maze, especially when everyone's giving you the "over there somewhere" shrug. Honestly, a lot of these legendary places rely on word of mouth and just...being there. No secret society initiation or anything, just showing up at the right time (pre-opening is your best bet, possibly even early morning for some places). Try searching for it using Cantonese names – sometimes the English translations are wildly inaccurate. Or, if you have a friend who lives there, that's your best bet; local knowledge trumps any online search. Good luck on your next culinary quest!
