PolyU's Hidden History?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next month for a conference. I've read about its role in the 2019 protests, and the campus itself looks incredible from the photos – that brutalist… more

The student vibe at PolyU is pretty intense – a real mix of hardworking academics and fiercely independent spirits. It's not all protests, though that definitely left its mark. Think buzzing energy, lots of late-night study sessions fueled by cheap noodles, and a strong sense of community, especially amongst those in the same programs. For lesser-known spots… well, the campus is a maze. Wander off the main paths, explore the older buildings – some have these amazing little hidden courtyards, tucked away and super quiet. You might stumble across some surprisingly beautiful spots that aren't in any tourist brochures. Check out the library's upper floors – the views are fantastic and way less crowded than the lower levels. And honestly? Just get lost. That’s half the fun of PolyU. You’ll find cool stuff you'd never expect.

Dim Sum Dilemma?

fmd_good Tim Ho Wan

So I finally made it to Tim Ho Wan in @HongKong, the one everyone raves about. The hype is REAL, I mean seriously, the baked char siu buns were... otherworldly. But here's the thing: the menu is HUGE… more

Okay, so you conquered the baked char siu buns – high five! Those things are legendary. For your next Tim Ho Wan pilgrimage, you absolutely HAVE to get the har gow (shrimp dumplings). Seriously, the texture is insane. Then, branch out a little – their siu mai (pork dumplings) are also top-tier. Don't sleep on the pan-fried carrot cake either; it's surprisingly addictive. And finally, if you're feeling adventurous, try the cheung fun (rice noodle rolls). They’re simple, but the execution is perfect. That's a solid starting point for your next dim sum adventure. You won't regret it. Enjoy!
