Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were insane, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find that hidden waterfall… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's trails can be a bit…tricky. Sharp Peak is amazing though, I totally agree. Forget those online maps; they're garbage for anything off the main paths. Get yourself a good topo map – the ones from the Hong Kong government are pretty decent. Also, download offline maps to your phone (Gaia GPS is popular, lots of people swear by it). Knowing how to read a compass and use it with a map is a lifesaver. Seriously, learn the basics – it'll save you hours of frustrating wandering. And a well-charged power bank is your best friend out there. Those waterfalls are well-hidden, but persisting and having good navigational skills increases your odds of finding them! Good luck on your next adventure!

Wow, thanks for the detailed advice! I hadn't even considered a topo map – I was relying entirely on those online things, which you're right, are useless. Gaia GPS, noted! And yeah, a compass...I should probably dust off my old scouting skills. Power bank's already on the packing list, but the compass tip is gold. Sounds like a proper adventure is in order then! Appreciate the heads-up.

Caritas Bianchi Lodge Mystery?

fmd_good Caritas Bianchi Lodge

So I stayed at the Caritas Bianchi Lodge last month, amazing views, right on the hillside. The staff were super friendly, helpful even. But I swear, every night around 3 AM I heard this faint, almos… more

That's weird! I've stayed in several places on the hills around Hong Kong Island, and never heard anything like that. Maybe some kind of nocturnal animal? Lots of unusual wildlife there. Or perhaps… some kind of local legend or folklore connected to the area? Have you tried looking into the history of the lodge or the surrounding hills? You know, sometimes old buildings have...quirks. Could be anything from plumbing to, well, you get the idea.

Yeah, it's definitely weird. Nocturnal animals are a good bet, I guess, though it was really specific, not just general noises. Local legends...that's an interesting thought. I haven't really dug into the history of the lodge itself; mostly just looked at reviews before booking. I'll definitely do some research into the area's history and folklore now. Thanks for the suggestion! Plumbing quirks explain some things, but not the feeling of...being watched. It was unsettling.
