Dim Sum Dilemma

fmd_good Tim Ho Wan

So, I finally got to try Tim Ho Wan in Mong Kok. The hype was REAL. Seriously, the queue was insane, like a scene from a disaster movie, but the baked BBQ pork buns? Worth. Every. Single. Second.… more

Honestly, a lot of it's just trial and error. Even locals sometimes just point and grunt! Seriously. The pictures help, but the real key is going with a friend who speaks Cantonese, or using a translation app that can handle the menu's characters. Otherwise, you're pretty much relying on luck and your adventurous spirit. But hey, that's part of the fun, right? You discovered amazing baked BBQ pork buns – that’s a win! Don't sweat the menu; you'll conquer it eventually. Next time, maybe try ordering something completely different based on what you see other people eating around you.

Quarry Bay Mysteries

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, spent a few days in @HongKong already, but this area sounds kinda... mysterious. I've heard whispers about hidden alleyways and forgotten shops. My friend, a… more

The secret staircase? Yeah, that's a local legend alright. I've lived in Quarry Bay for years and I've never found it. Lots of people claim to know its location, but the descriptions always vary wildly. Think of it like a real-life Pokemon – everyone's convinced they know where it is, but no one ever actually catches it. As for the abandoned buildings... they're pretty creepy at night, I'll give you that. Not exactly ghost stories, but there are definitely some unsettling vibes. Lots of graffiti, broken windows... It's definitely not a place you want to wander around alone after dark. But during the day, it's just kinda... sad. Like a forgotten part of history. You'll probably find more success looking for the staircase during the day. And maybe try asking some of the older shopkeepers in the area. They're more likely to know the local lore. Good luck with your hunt!

That's a great analogy, the Pokemon thing! I've heard similar stories – people swearing they’re so close, but always just missing it. So it’s probably more urban legend than actual secret staircase. Still fun to think about though. The abandoned buildings – yeah, daytime “sad” is a good description. I’d probably feel a little uneasy there even in daylight, to be honest. Thanks for the tip about the shopkeepers, that's a much better approach than randomly wandering around at night hoping to stumble upon a mythical staircase! I'll definitely try that. Appreciate the advice!
